Small Venues and Independent Promoters Working Together
Over the past few years, independent promoters and concert clubs have started to work more closely together than they ever have before. One example of this is Studio Seven in Seattle, which does shows with a company called Gorilla Productions. Gorilla Productions is based out of Cleveland and they coordinate local concerts for independent bands all over the country. They offer a number of other services to local bands as well, including a consultation and band coaching program.
Making it easier for venues to book more shows, the trend of concert clubs working more closely with independent promoters continues to be a prominent trend. Another of these clubs following this trend is in Kansas City and is called the Beaumont club. Like Studio Seven in Seattle, the Beaumont also works with Gorilla Productions to put on concerts. They also use a number of event coordinators, including Afton Live.
Most local groups do not understand how difficult it is for concert venues to book unknown local groups. Having companies like Gorilla Production there to help them has done wonders for local music scenes across the country.
Last year alone, production companies like Gorilla Productions produced at least half of the local events in most major cities. Without their help, local bands would have a lot more trouble getting live shows in concert venues. Sure, local groups can get gigs in corner bars pretty easily, but getting to play on the same stage that one of their idols has played can be a pretty awesome feeling.
But simply getting shows is not the only way production companies are helping local bands. They also help to up the attendance level of shows as well as finding a way for local bands to make more money than they have in the past. In previous years, any groups that made around $50 on a local show were doing pretty good. But now a band can make up to $500 in a single night- that is, if they’re able and willing to work hard and bring a crowd along with them to their show.
Gorilla Productions puts on concerts for local bands in over 65 cities across the nation, specializing in putting on Battle of the Bands, showcases, and music fests. Production companies like Gorilla Productions have been working closely with concert clubs to strengthen music scenes all across the nation.
